Key Rules & Conventions

Rule 1: Capitalize Days of the Week Always start the name of a day of the week with a capital letter. Use this rule whenever you write Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. It doesn't matter where the word is in the sentence. Rule 2: Capitalize Months of the Year Always start the name of a month with a capital letter. Use this rule for all twelve months, from January to December. This is especially important when writing the date. Rule 3: Capitalize Holidays Always start the name of a specific holiday with a capital letter. Use this rule for special celebration days like New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, or Halloween. If the holiday has more than one word, capitalize the important words.
