Key Rules & Conventions
The Noun-Pronoun Match
Noun → Pronoun
The pronoun you choose must match the noun. Use 'he' for a boy, 'she' for a girl, 'it' for a thing, and 'they' for more than one person or thing.
The Contraction Formula
Pronoun + Verb = Contraction
You can combine a pronoun with a verb like 'is', 'are', or 'will' to make a new, shorter word. For example, 'she' + 'is' becomes 'she's'.
The Apostrophe's Spot
Apostrophe (') replaces missing letters
When you make a contraction, the apostrophe always goes exactly where the letter or letters were removed. In 'they are' → 'they're', the apostrophe replaces the letter 'a'.
