Key Rules & Conventions

The S + P = CS Formula Subject + Predicate = Complete Sentence To be a complete sentence, a group of words must have both a subject (the who/what) and a predicate (the what's happening). If one is missing, it's a fragment. The Stand-Alone Test A complete sentence must make sense all by itself. Read the group of words out loud. If it leaves you asking a question like 'Who did that?' or 'What happened next?', it's probably a fragment because it doesn't express a complete thought.
