Grammar Rules & Patterns
Using 'El' and 'La'
'El' and 'la' both mean 'the'.
In Spanish, all objects are either 'boy' words (use 'el') or 'girl' words (use 'la'). You have to learn which one to use for each food. For example, we say 'el maíz' but 'la manzana'.
Saying 'I like'
Me gusta + el/la + [food name]
To say you like something, you always start with 'Me gusta'. Then you add the name of the food with its special friend, 'el' or 'la'. For example: 'Me gusta el pan.' 👍
