Grammar Rules & Patterns

Rule 1: Adjectives ending in a vowel (-a, -e, -i, -o, -u) Add an -s to the end. This is the most common rule. If your describing word ends with a vowel, just add an 's' to make it plural. Rule 2: Adjectives ending in a consonant Add -es to the end. If your describing word ends in any letter that is not a vowel (like -l, -n, -r), add 'es' to make it plural. Rule 3: Adjectives ending in -z Change the -z to a -c, then add -es. This is a special spelling rule. The letter 'z' doesn't like to be in the middle of a word in Spanish, so it changes to a 'c' before we add 'es'.
