Grammar Rules & Patterns

Regular Preterite Conjugation -AR verbs: -é, -aste, -ó, -amos, -asteis, -aron. -ER/-IR verbs: -í, -iste, -ió, -imos, -isteis, -ieron. To conjugate regular verbs in the preterite, remove the -AR, -ER, or -IR ending and add the appropriate preterite ending for the subject pronoun. Remember the accent marks! Irregular Preterite: Ser and Ir Ser (to be) and Ir (to go) have identical preterite conjugations: fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron. The context of the sentence will determine whether 'fui' means 'I was' or 'I went'. This is a very common irregularity.
