Preterite vs. Imperfect for Descriptions
Use Imperfect for background/description (scenery, weather, what people were wearing, feelings). Use Preterite for the main actions/events that happened.
When describing a photo, set the scene with the imperfect. Then, narrate the specific actions that took place with the preterite. Think of the imperfect as the stage setting and the preterite as the actors' main actions.
