Gender of Seasons
Most seasons are masculine and use the article 'el'. The exception is 'la primavera'.
Use 'el' for verano, otoño, and invierno. Use 'la' for primavera. This is a fixed rule to memorize. Example: 'El verano es mi estación favorita, pero también me gusta la primavera'.
Using 'en' with Seasons
To say 'in the [season]', use the preposition 'en'. The definite article (el/la) is often omitted, especially in general statements.
While 'en el verano' is grammatically correct, it's more common and natural to say 'en verano'. Use the article when being more specific. General: 'En invierno hace frío'. Specific: 'En el invierno de 2022 nevó mucho'...
